What should I expect when I arrive?
For most, a boudoir session is a new experience. Being a little nervous is completely normal.
When you arrive we'll take a few minutes to look through the wardrobe selections that you brought for the session. We’ll talk about the various looks you want to capture and the overall vibe of the shoot. If you’ve shared your inspirational Pinterest or mood board with us, we’ll take some to look through those images with you.
Being on time is important as we may have other clients scheduled after you. If you arrive late we'd hate to have to cut your session short and cut down on your final selection of images.
Should I do my own hair and makeup?
We suggest visiting a stylist prior to your session, making sure to let them know you're headed to a studio photo shoot. Of course you can do your own hair and makeup, but please be mindful that everything shows up in camera so be sure to use product on your hair to control any frizziness or fly-aways. We'd also recommend a matte foundation and avoid makeup that's too "shimmery or sparkly". As some of of our sessions are longer, please make sure to bring along extra powder, lipstick, and hairspray for touch-ups. If you’re planning on spray tanning, make sure to give yourself plenty of time for it to even out before your session. Lastly, unless you’re going for a completely natural look, don’t forget your fingernails and toenails!
What kind of outfits should I bring to my session? What should I wear?
Besides the obvious lingerie options, we have several suggestions on our Boudoir Wardrobe Page. Be mindful of the little details, such as removing tags from lingerie, steaming robes, shirts, and anything else that could appear wrinkly on camera. Depending on the length and nature of your session we'd suggest bringing several different outfits as well as accessories like hats, jewelry, scarves, shoes, etc…
What else should I bring to my session?
To help get you motivated, bringing a favorite playlist can be a big boost in energy and confidence. Just let us know when you arrive and we’ll get you connected to the studio sound system. Props? Yes absolutely! Although we have a few things available in studio, feel free to bring along anything that will personalize your session, ie. wine, flowers, or items of personal interest to you or your partner.
Can I bring someone with me?
Yes, having a friend, your partner, or your own personal cheerleader can be helpful! However, please limit it to one person, as our studio space is limited so too many people can turn into a big distraction.
Will you help me with my poses?
Absolutely! As we move through your session we will help guide you into poses that are flattering for you and your body type. If you have attributes you want to show off, or areas of concern, let’s talk about that ahead of time. We will help pose you in ways that accentuate or minimize those areas. If you’ve been looking though boudoir poses and have some favorites, we can work with you to recreate them to the best of our ability.
Are my photos retouched, and what’s the difference between retouching and Photoshopping?
Our boudoir packages include what we call “standard retouching.” This includes the removal of blemishes, bruises, and some stray hairs, and perhaps a bit of teeth whitening. Advanced retouching or making radical changes to one’s shape or body, commonly referred to as Photoshopping, is available for an additional charge which will vary depending on the number of photos and level of difficulty.
Are my photos kept private? Will anyone else see them?
Your photos are yours and yours alone! We won’t share them with anyone. If you order prints or photobooks, we use a printer in New York that we’ve worked with for close to a decade that we feel is the epitome of professionalism and discretion.
How long does it take to get the proofs from my session and do I have to come back to the studio to see them?
Proofs are usually available to view in about two to three weeks. During the holidays or particularly busy times of the year, that could be extended by a week or more. Proofs are available in a private online gallery. We will send you an email with the link to view them when they're ready. Attached to the email will be an order form where you can make your selections and order prints, photobooks, or digital media.
May I upgrade my package before or after my session?
Absolutely! Anytime before your session you can upgrade to a session that offers more time and photos. As well, if at the end of your session you feel that there will be so many great photos that you’ll want them all, or more than are included in your current package, you may upgrade to a bigger package within 24 hours after your session.
How long until I receive my photobook or prints, and if they’re not included in my package how to I pay for them?
Prints generally arrive within two weeks of ordering. Photobooks are a little more time intensive. With our proof and review process it depends on how quickly we get a final draft approved by the client. After final approval it could take up to four weeks to receive your photobook. If your package didn’t include prints or a photobook, we will email you an invoice via Square for prepayment where you may make your payment securely online.
